Kiteboarder Level 1 on the water (2 hours)

Level 1A

  • Know safe wind directions and conditions for kiting
  • Know hazards on a spot
  • Set up a trainer kite
  • Know the use of safety systems

Level 1B

  • Have basic flying skills with trainer kite
  • Launch and land the trainer kite with an assistant
  • Twist and untwist the lines while flying the kite
  • Walk and change directions while flying the kite
  • Know the wind window

Level 1C

  • Set-up a 4/5 line kite with a full de-power system
  • Pre-flight check of equipment and settings
  • In flight check of equipment and settings
  • Understand and use the international communication signals
  • Launch and land the kite to an assistant and as an assistant (4/5-line de-power kite)

Level 1D

  • Control the kite hooked into the harness
  • Understand the de-power system and can use the safety systems
  • Advanced flying skills with the de-power kite
  • Show full control of de-power systems in flight

Level 1E

  • Pull quick release and activate leash
  • Recover the bar and kite
  • Self land
 
Kiteboarder Level 2 in the water (3 hours)

Level 2F

  • Enter and exit the water independently and safely while controlling the kite
  • Water re-launch the kite
  • First body drag downwind
  • Maintain correct kite position in the wind window
  • Change direction to the left and right while body dragging
  • Recover the kite and bar in the water

Level 2G

  • Upwind body drag to recover board
  • Upwind body drag holding the board with one hand
  • Enter and exit at the same point while upwind body dragging

Level 2H

  • Know the power stroke for a water start
  • Know the safety rules and theory for water start
  • Can put the board on the feet and maintain the correct position for water start

Level 2I

  • Water starts in both directions and ride a short distance
  • Come to a controlled stop
  • Understand weather forecast, tidal- and wind effects
  • Determine the wind strength, direction and quality
  • Know the right of way rules
  • Know equipment set up and choice according to the weather conditions
 
Kiteboarder Level 3

Level 3J

  • Control the riding speed by edging
  • Consistent riding in both directions

Level 3K

  • Consistent riding in all directions including upwind
  • Ride amongst other riders and water users and respect right of way rules

Level 3L

  • Change of direction without stopping
  • Self- rescue and full pack-down in the water

Level 3M

  • Risk assessment and awareness of the riding area
  • Self launch

Level 3N

  • Make a toe side turn
  • Knows the theory and the safety rules for jumping.
  • Land a basic jump

KITEBOARDER LEVEL1


1. Theory about the safety rules, wind window, control bar safety systems, kite & board technology and spot analysis.
2. Short time 2-3 meter foil kite flying on the beach.
3. Set up 4 line SLE inflatable kite, pump bladders, and roll the lines, rigging the bridles, connection to the attachments, pre flight check.
4. Launching & landing the kite alone with the sand on the beach.
5. Flying the kite with short lines 10 to 15 meters.
6. Let go the bar.
7. Flying the kite in a shallow water figure 8 in the power zone
8. Short body drags.
9. Let go the bar and relaunch the kite from the water.
11. Set up the kite with 20 meter lines.
12. Flying the kite and check, if the students remember the wind window key words (9, 12, 3, o’clock, power zone…)
13. Launching & landing the kite alone with the sand (20m lines).
14. Let go the bar and relaunch the kite from the water (20m lines).
15. Let go the bar and take the kite, bar, lines buck together (20m lines).
16. 1000 meters down wind body dragging with harness, awareness of position in space (starting point, arrival point).
17. Piloting & walking up wind with one hand on the bar, with harness.
18. Theory feedback.

KITEBOARDER LEVEL 2

1. Theory about the, kite aerodynamics, performance (aspect ratios), tips of kiteboards,
5. Quick release, in level 2 we teach the students to use the quick release safety system very often during the lesson because we have to make sure that in case of emergency our students will be the faster!
7. Quick release the kite and relaunch from the water
8. Self rescue,- quick release, and take kite, bar, lines buck together
9. 1000 meters body dragging down wind awareness of position in space (starting point, arrival point).
10. Body dragging up-wind using body positioning and piloting of the kite to move in wanted direction (once to the left then to the right).
11. One handed body dragging for the kiteboard rescue.
12. One handed piloting the kite.
13. Generating steady pull in starting position on the board.
14. Tying the board leash alone.
15. Water start, first small rides both sides

KITEBOARDER LEVEL 3

1. Theory about priority rules.
2. Set up 1-2 meters smaller size kite, for the wind conditions of the day.
3. Water start, changing of direction up & down to the wind (edging up & down)
4. Holding the edge of the board, pushing and feet position.
5. Walking up wind with one hand one the bar, and the other holding the board.
6. Choosing the right size kite.
7. Methods of flying to de-power the kite, theoretical lesson about edge control.
8. Start to ride up wind.
9. Knowledge about where to focus to keep the right stance and kite position.
10. Remove the board leash, and practice again body dragging up wind to rescue the board.
11. Riding a shorter twin tip board.
12. Switch direction.
13. First jump.
